Free Gift Transfers with Confectionery

Page Six of Thirty-four pages

Raja Grandes Descobridores [1969]

I first encountered this promotion when, while searching for something else, I came across this mystery transfer which I was able to obtain (along with the Michelino transfers I had been looking for) from a kind American:

It was a while before Frederico da Cunha (ToyFreddy) was able to explain. He says:

"Booklet presented in the form of folding pages by the legendary Raja ice-cream at the end of the 60s. Features just six trading cards of great navigators and explorers: Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan, James Cook and Pedro Alvares Cabral. In addition much written and illustrated information about their deeds is included and a giant poster in colour with a World Map."

The map shown here isn't the full-colour, full-size version — it's just the two-spot-colour preview that features on each envelope for the transfer sheets. And although only three Great Explorers have their biographies here, of course there are three more along the same lines.

There aren't all that many Letraset promotions which are specifically Portuguese — see below for the only other one I know of at the moment — so finding many more of these sheets is probably going to take some time!
